Dee Havlin
Co. Antrim flute and whistle player Dee Havlin was born in Ballymoney. She learned her playing from local teacher John Kennedy (Cullybackey) and went on to win an All Ireland title for flute playing.
Dee joined the band Déanta alongside fellow Antrim musicians Kate O’Brien (fiddle), Eoghan O’Brien (harp and guitar), Mary Dillon (vocal), Clodagh Warnock (fiddle) and Rosie Mulholland (fiddle/keys). The band recorded three albums of traditional and newly composed tunes and songs.
Dee moved to Liverpool and Yorkshire for several years where she joined traditional Irish band The London Lasses and Pete Quinn, with whom she recorded three albums. She has since returned to Ballymoney where she plays and teaches regularly in the local area.
She recently recorded on LL25 – The London Lasses 25th Anniversary Album. Her recent solo performances include the Flutopia concert at Belfast Trad Festival, the Women of the North concert as part of the Lir Sessions and a performance with Déanta on TG4’s Fleadh TV.
